<p class="wp-block-paragraph">· What are the (grand/inspiring) challenges at the cross-roads of AI, Data and Robotics Europe should invest in&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">WS Description: An effective European AI, Data and Robotics ecosystem is a necessity to provide a powerful response to many of the challenges Europe and the world are facing, and valorize the opportunities it presents .&nbsp;&nbsp; Much of this power comes through synergies and collaboration between disciplines and communities. A powerful mechanism to achieve convergence are shared challenges and objectives.&nbsp;&nbsp;Due to the omnipresence of AI, Data and Robotics technologies, and the complexity of the value-chains involved, defining such challenges is easy and difficult at the same time.&nbsp;Easy in the sense that technological advancements in ADR promise new opportunities when applied in nearly all sectors and application domains.&nbsp;Difficult in the sense that prioritization isn’t obvious. In this workshop we explore 4 (grand) – challenges (archetypes) and investigate their potential and what implementing these challenges would require in terms of ecosystem and support.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Break-out groups (topic / chairs)</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Break-out groups are focused around an archetype challenge. They have a chair that minimally prepares the contours of the challenges, and animates the discussion in the break-out group. The break-out groups are composed of the people that attend the session.&nbsp; Around 7&nbsp;persons per group is advisable.&nbsp; The break-out groups are populated randomly with participants to the session. The objective of the session is get a dialogue going between the various stakeholders and their interests (i.e. the challenge in that sense is secondary, but input to the challenge at hand is valuable and will be taken into account in the development of the SRIDA)&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Areas mainly addressed: Healthcare, Agile Production, Robotics and AI/Big Data Value, Ethical, Legal, Social, Economic implications of robotics, Autonomy, Collaborative Robots and cloud robotics, Cybersecurity in Robotics, Regulation and Standardization for Robotics and AI&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Main questions to be answered:&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">· What are the most effective/safe AI &amp; Robotics results/technologies having a real impact on the EU market?&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">· What are the main barriers for “pushing” new AI &amp; Robotics research results/technologies out of the labs?&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">· What are the most relevant fields/areas in which the EC should push/finance new activities to foster the creation of new AI &amp; Robotics synergies and pave the way towards their deployment in real settings?&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">WS Description: Robotics is one of the most natural application areas for AI research.Advances in AI&amp;Robotics (AIRO) are fostering key enabling features such as decisional autonomy,learning,interaction ability,dependability and cognitive abilities for robots.Thus it seems essential for AIRO communities to respond to the challenges that these applications pose and contribute to the advance of intelligent robotics.This proposal aims at highlighting the AIRO bright and dark side.The integration of well established results with cutting edge technologies,like,eg,ML with classic model-based solutions,seems ready to be successfully deployed in real world settings.On the other hand,although impressive results have been achieved in separate fields,they are often limited to laboratory conditions.For rolling out innovative and trustworthy AI solutions to the market,further improvements and research are required&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Intended outcome: Workshop on recent developments in technology or applications, Workshop expected to create a roadmap or white paper, Workshop discussion topics of common interest, success stories, use cases, etc&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Approach: Considering a 80min slot, the envisaged approach is the following.&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Several experts, from both research and industry, working in different robotics fields (i.e., service robots, manufacturing, space, health, cybersecurity, etc) will be asked to address the main questions reported above so as to provide the audience with an overview of success and challenges in AIRO. This will aim to highlight “bright and dark sides” of AIRO and then frame strengths and weaknesses of current approaches/solutions.&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Indeed, the proposed questions are to stimulate the speakers to survey the results and provide a &#8220;critical&#8221; picture of the state of the art in AIRO. Such series of talks will then provide concrete elements to draw the bounds in which research/technologies are effective and what is still missing to improve the reach out.&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The agenda of the event will be structured in three sections:&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8211; a series of (short) ppt from experts about successful AIRO applications also pointing out limitations, major barriers and missing points for actual deployments&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8211; A final discussion will start after the ppt and will be aimed at identifying and classifying strengths/weaknesses and identify possible significant areas of intervention to deal with challenges.&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The results of the discussion will be used to produce a post-WS report collecting ideas/issues to address the general questions and possibly elicit insights to be included in the ADRA roadmap.&nbsp;</p>
