TG relation: TG Safety, TG Industrial robotics
Areas mainly addressed: Robotics and AI/Big Data Value, Ethical, Legal, Social, Economic implications of robotics, Autonomy, Collaborative Robots and cloud robotics, Regulation and Standardization for Robotics and AI
Main questions to be answered:
· How to handle complexity and how to balance simplicity with performance in AI driven robotics systems?
· What is needed in terms of understanding the interaction of humans with autonomous, intelligent robots?
· How much regulation do we need and what should be considered as “AI” in the legislation?
WS Description: AI and Robotics are ever growing closer together. Using AI technology in robotics offers tremendous possibilities, however, it also implies great challenges – not least for the safety of the overall system. As safety is an emergent property of the individual robotics applications, generic recommendations and guidelines for AI safety are not sufficient to make an autonomous, intelligent robotics system, that uses uses of AI technology, safe. We want to address aspects of this challenge both from an industrial and an academic viewpoint. The results of the interactive discussion will enter into the road mapping activities and a position paper.
Intended outcome: Workshop expected to create a roadmap or white paper, Workshop discussion topics of common interest, success stories, use cases, etc, Workshop on recent developments in technology or applications
Approach: Part 1: Challenges and Innovations – scientific and industrial perspectives (3 short presentations, 2 from industry, 1 from academia)
Part 2: Interactive fish-bowl discussion with the speaker panel and the participants
Contributors: Role: All speakers are invited to give a 10-15 minute presentation with focus on facilitating a discussion and will be part of the fish-bowl (interactive discussion with the participants):
1. Jérémie Guiochet , LAAS-CNRS Toulouse, Prof. Computer Science: “Safety monitors for Machine-Learning perception functions” (confirmed)
2. Arne Nordmann, Neura Robotics, Head of Engineering: “AI and Safety in human-centric robotics” (confirmed)
3. Martin Wüstefeld, SICK AG, Head of CU System Integration & Functional Safety: “Perception systems – AI – Algorithms: IEC TS 62998-3 as companion standard” (confirmed)
